Archeological material of the Ministry’s internet site
The Sultanate enjoys an important geographical location
which has enabled the country to play a significant role
since early times. This has resulted in active contact with
the ancient civilizations which prevailed in Oman’s
neighboring countries and encouraged researchers and
scientists to visit the Sultanate since the 1950s to follow
up the civilization successiveness by conducting surveys to
authenticate various archeological sites in the country.
Since the dawn of the renaissance era led by His Majesty
Sultan Qaboos who believes that the presence is inspired by
the past has accorded special attention to heritage. The
Ministry of Heritage and Culture has been established and
since the 1970s the ministry has played a remarkable role in
protecting and preserving antiques and raising awareness
among members of the community with importance of
safeguarding this civilization heritage.
Archeological missions from various international
universities have visited Oman to excavate and study the
found antiques under the supervision of the Ministry of
heritage and culture. Thanks to these efforts studies have
covered many archeological sites which included:
