Omani folklore arts and incorporeal cultural heritage gain
special importance as they demonstrate various economic,
social, cultural and intellectual aspects of the Omani
society. These arts also reflect the lives of individuals
and their traditions and customs.
The folklore arts department at the Ministry of Heritage and
Culture directly supervises and cares for the development of
folklore arts and the Sultanate’s incorporeal heritage and
demonstrate same locally and internationally by monitoring
and registering various folklore arts and through
participation in festivals, seminars and lectures.
Several folklore troupes which perform ancient Omani arts
have been registered. These troupes use a number of
traditional musical instruments which include: The drum,
Kharkhash, Sahal, Marine Shell, Horn, Sanbouj, Duf, Rebec,
Flute and Pipe.
With regard to the incorporeal cultural heritage, the
department compiles all pertinent publications, research and
studies and keeps them in a library founded for this
purpose.

to Omani talents in the musical field and train them.
Training programs designated for such talented youth include
playing various musical instruments such as the violin,
organ, lute, contrabass and others, as well as teaching
