Renovation of Mosques

Many archeological mosques spread in the Sultanate’s various regions. These mosques are characterized by their unique Omani architecture. Mosques are not only used for performing prayers, but also they serve as venues for the holding of seminars, lectures and holy Qumran teaching.

Since 1995, the ministry has embarked on renovating around 34 archeological mosques.

A sample: al-Tahseen or A`daf mosque in the wilayat of Sumail in the Dakhiliyah region.

It is located at al-Taseen (al-A`daf) on a curving hill. It’s surrounded by citizens' houses, the big cemetery and date palm trees.

Prior to the renovation works, the mosque included a prayer hall (2x3 meter), and there was no ablution area. It was built of Sarooj material and graves. Its ceiling has fallen down. It had two windows which were destroyed completely and one destroyed door at the prayer hall. It has no minaret now as it had undergone many renovation works and it is not known whether it used to have a minaret before these works or no. The edifice has one wall which was built in a curve shape. Its entrance which is located in the eastern side took a curvy shape and there was no suitable staircase.

Renovation works have led to enhancing the mosque base,
cleaning the prayer hall from the ruins of the collapsed walls, installing, supplying power,
installing two split units and others.

The prayer hall area is now 56.25 meter. The total amount spent on these renovations was R.O. 30.000. The project was completed in 210 days.
