Technical services provided by the muniments and manuscripts department.

As part of its efforts to restore and preserve the historical treasures of muniments and manuscripts, the ministry established a department to be entrusted with the task of securing technical assistance to this effect. The technical services department deployed its resources to achieve its objectives which include availing the proper environmental elements required to preserve these treasures.

The department is also entrusted with the task of restoring damaged artifacts and manuscripts using state of the art equipment and the latest technologies are doing so.

The department had successfully completed the restorations of a number of artifacts and manuscripts owned by Omani citizens. Copies of such documents are kept at the ministry to be availed to researchers.

Also part of the department tasks is to photograph the artifacts and manuscripts in micro-films to avoid direct contact and thus avoid affecting the treasured document.

The ministry is in the process of introducing the applications of the latest information technology as part of its efforts to avail digital copies of all artifacts and manuscripts to researchers.
