Ras al-Hamrah site
It is a several shell formed hills dating back to 4000 BC.
The settlement strata contained remains of holes used for
hut building wooden posts. The settlement strata also
consisted of fishing tools such as shell rods, stone axes
and shell formed ladies ornaments. Some cemeteries
containing skeletons which are mostly ornamented by shells
and beads.
Work continued at Ras al-Hamrah during 2004- 2005 to
complete archeological explorations, before establishing a
developmental project in the area. Several tombs covering
the North Western part of the area were found. Some of these
tombs contained more than skeleton including skeletons of a
woman and three children who were buried in one tomb.
The contents of these tombs included a shell made necklace,
beads, shell made pin, beads made of soap stone, ear ring,
bracelets, a bone which is thought to be a musical
instrument, stoves and holes filled with shells and fish and
turtles bones.
