Bandar Jissah site:
The site is a harbor which is located 10 km south east
Muscat. The available quantities of Chinese pottery which
spread on the surface of the show that some trade relations
and ties have existed between the regions and South East
Asian countries. The site represents a unique example of the
Omani traditional village which is a residential village
situated on the coast and
included a number of buildings which are still in good
condition such as the mosque, the fort and others. Several
towers some of which are on top of mountains and other by
the Wadi are still there.
Three archeological sites dating back to the BC period were
found. Excavations which began in the site in 1981 led to
discovering a natural cave formed of solid rock strata. It
contained some cooper plates and pottery pieces. The site
was dated back to 4000 BC which means the cave was a
settlement of pre-history humans. Shell shape hill which was
exposed to erosion was also found at the bottom of the
mountain located at the east of the archeological city. In
general the Bandar Jissah site was exposed to considerable
erosion operations. The site in general was dated to the
transitional period from the neo Iron age to the Bronze era.
