Archeological material of the Ministry’s internet site
Al-Wattiyah Site:
A German mission has in cooperation with the Ministry
conducted exploratory works at Al-Wattiyah site in 1986.
These works have resulted in finding the oldest settlement
of the Iron Age man to the east of the Arab Peninsula. This
settlement dated back to 10000 years.
Some archeological remains dating to various periods ranging
between the Iron and Bronze ages were found at the site.
Those archeological remains included stone tools, remains of
animal skeletons, pieces of hand made pottery which has
carried the features of the pre-Bronze age pottery, as well
as scrapers, sharp tools and stoves whose age was estimated
at 9615 years. These stoves are the oldest proof for the
existence of man in the area.
Some drawings on top of AL-Wattiyah hills rocks were also
found. These drawings reflected the hunting methods and ways
used in resisting predators.
